Non-GMO Project
In the past 25 years, genetically modified organis In the past 25 years, genetically modified organisms have transformed the agricultural landscape, figuratively and literally. The more that humans try to monopolize the landscape, the harder nature pushes back to restore balance — it does this through weeds, plant pests, and pathogens. Changing our approach is no small thing — it requires accepting that stewardship and regeneration of the land has a value that is equal to, if not greater than, the resources we draw from it.

Promoting seed sovereignty and biodiversity is ess Promoting seed sovereignty and biodiversity is essential to creating a truly resilient and healthy food system that works for everybody. There are many organizations — including the Non-GMO Project — working to restore healthy soils and farmers’ rights. An obvious first step is to avoid GMOs by looking for the Butterfly — after all, we can choose how our food is made.
You might think of biodiversity as the wide variet You might think of biodiversity as the wide variety of living species on Earth — plants, animals, bacteria, and fungi. That’s a lot of life. But did you know biodiversity includes so much more? It also includes the different ecosystems that form natural habitats for those species and genetic variations within the species — such as varieties of crops and subspecies of animals.

The Earth is blessed with an abundance of biodiversity resulting from millions of years of species’ evolution and co-habitation. But that abundance is under threat. The pace of biodiversity loss has increased in the last 100 years, and human activity plays a large part in that destruction. Through habitat loss, unsustainable resource use, pollution and global climate change, we are witnessing an unfathomable loss of species around the globe.

Threats to biodiversity create fragile ecosystems, destroy invaluable genetic diversity needed to keep plants and animals healthy, and ultimately contribute to food insecurity and disease. But it’s not too late to choose a different future.

Every living thing is connected. The resources we rely on — including our food supply — simply cannot thrive without abundant biodiversity. By choosing non-GMO today, you are supporting biodiversity, helping to create a truly resilient and healthy food system that works in cooperation with nature.
Have you planted a seed this spring? If you have, Have you planted a seed this spring? If you have, you probably know that tiny little package holds a lot of information. It also holds a lot of controversy.

In the last 100 years, the seeds our food system relies upon have become increasingly privatized. What does this mean for farmers, for biodiversity and for our ability to adapt to a changing climate? Read all about it in our latest blog, link in bio.

"Soil erosion is a natural process, but it has been vastly and needlessly accelerated by unsustainable agriculture practices in many regions across the United States and globally." Farming practices that strip nutrients and protective cover are not the only option. Rotating crops, planting deep-rooted perennials and including well-managed grazing are just some of the ways to welcome genetic diversity back to the land. ... See MoreSee Less
