Your gift at work

Our dedicated research team tracks the latest developments in the biotechnology industry. The Non-GMO Project is the only organization tracking new GMOs in development, ready to respond to emerging technology in real time.

Biotechnology is growing fast. In the past 5 years, we've seen the number of biotech developers working in this space increase by more than 300%! Your support helps our work match the speed of biotechnology.

We believe everyone has a right to know how their food is made. The Butterfly Alliance supports education efforts to help eaters, retailers and brands everywhere exercise that right.

For example, our ongoing series of awareness campaigns highlighting new GMOs was sponsored in part by our donors. With your help, we’ve reached millions of people with critical information about the rapid rise of largely unlabeled new GMOs.

The Non-GMO Project administers North America's most rigorous certification for GMO avoidance, ensuring that you have access to Verified options.

Thanks to you, we are growing the non-GMO food supply!

How we're changing the food system

How the Non-GMO Project is changing the food system infographic

For the movement to succeed, the path is clear.

First, raise awareness

GMOs entered the food supply in the 1990s without the knowledge or consent of the people who would end up eating them. The Non-GMO Project was created to protect the non-GMO food supply, provide non-GMO options and educate consumers about the GMO issue.

We believe everyone has the right to make an informed decision about whether or not to consume GMOs, and we've found millions of people who agree.

That, in turn, inspires demand

As the Non-GMO Project grows, so does awareness of the problems in our food system.

When Americans learn how common GMOs are — an estimated 80% of processed food products in grocery stores contain GMO ingredients — they overwhelmingly support mandatory labeling and the right to choose.

Which increases supply

Demand for Non-GMO Project Verified products continues to grow, and brands are taking notice. Every year more companies seek out verification.

Today, we work with thousands of partner brands looking for non-GMO ingredients to make their 66,000+ Verified products. The growing demand for non-GMO ingredients supports food producers to go non-GMO.

Which then changes how food is produced

With non-GMO crops and ingredients in high demand, food producers have the incentive and security to change the way they produce food.

That means more farmers can turn away from pesticide-hungry GMOs in favor of more sustainable and diverse farming practices. The rise of the Butterfly helps support organic production, too, because non-GMO acreage reduces the risk that GMOs will contaminate organic crops

Which ultimately means a more natural, sustainable food system for people and the planet.

The corporations that create and promote GMO agriculture would prefer to keep shoppers in the dark. With your support, we're shining a light on the food system, illuminating a better way.

When you look for the Butterfly, you vote with your dollars for the kind of food system you want. And when you give to the Non-GMO Project, you're helping to change how our food is grown and made.
