According to last month’s New Hope Expo West Keynote Presentation, sustainability and “shopping your values” continue to drive consumer behavior. Here’s how:

  • 77% of all shoppers believe sustainability is important when selecting products — an 8 point increase from 2021.
  • 66% of all consumers and 80% of young adults prioritize sustainability and are willing to pay more for sustainable products. However, savvy sustainability shoppers want to see the receipts —  3 out of 4 use labels or third-party certifications to confirm sustainability claims.
  • What’s top of mind for values-oriented shoppers? 8 in 10 stated animal welfare, environmental welfare, labor/worker welfare and ingredient sourcing are personally important to them.
