The biotech industry has made several attempts to infiltrate honey and spreads, including GMO bees to produce honey and GMO honey produced without bees. However, shopper preference for natural and non-GMO products continues to drive growth:

  • Nearly half of Non-GMO Project Verified honey offerings experienced double digit sales growth from the previous year.
  • Verified peanut butter sales held steady at 3.4% year over year growth, while seed butter and nut butter alternatives (think: tahini or pumpkin seed butter) offering safe options for eaters with peanut allergies grew by 12% in YOY sales.

How sweet it is to be non-GMO!
