NonGMO Project GMO food verification logo orange

Logo_revised 12-4-13Angelic Bakehouse, a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certified bakery specializing in sprouted grain products, has received Non-GMO Project Verified status for its best-selling product, Sprouted Seven-Grain bread. The Non-GMO Project is North America’s only third party source for verification and labeling of non-GMO food and products.

The company is working towards Non-GMO Project Verification for the remainder of its product line –including wraps, flatbreads and buns – in 2016. The bread’s distinctive “Smart & Good Looking” packaging will begin carrying the Non-GMO Project Verified seal later this month.

“Angelic Bakehouse is all about creating pure bread perfection—using the purest non-GMO ingredients and crafting them into something better through our unique sprouted grain mash process,” says Angelic Bakehouse CEO and President Jenny Marino. ”We’ve always insisted on using non-GMO ingredients, but the verification process is another way for us to be transparent.”

According to the Center for Food Safety, over 90% of U.S. consumers believe food with genetically engineered or modified ingredients should be labeled—although the U.S. federal government doesn’t require it or conduct verifications. The Non-GMO Project has filled this gap and become widely recognized across the natural and organic foods industry. The organization has also gained recognition among consumers through national outreach efforts, such as Non-GMO Month every October.

The Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program (PVP) designates a product’s compliance with the Non-GMO Project standards based on a variety of factors, including traceability, segregation and testing of high-risk ingredients. According to the organization, the verification process typically takes on average 4-6 months. However, Angelic’s seven-grain bread was verified in less than 60 days – a testament to the quality of the company’s ingredients.

For more information about Angelic Bakehouse and its products go to www.angelicbakehouse.com. More information about the Non-GMO Project and the PVP can be found at www.nongmoproject.org.

LOGO ALGAAlgatechnologies Ltd. is proud to announce its verification by the Non-GMO Project. The Certification of Compliance, together with the NGP seal, was received January 2016. Verification by the Non-GMO Project ensures that AstaPure® natural astaxanthin products are produced in compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard, including ongoing testing of high-risk ingredients.

AstaPure astaxanthin is sourced from the Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae, cultivated at “Algatech’s” Arava desert facility, in a closed tubular environmentally protected system, utilizing natural sunlight twelve months a year. Astaxanthin is extracted from the microalgae biomass using supercritical CO2 technology, without any solvents. This controlled sustainable process guarantees the highest quality of natural bioactive ingredients, and complete traceability.

“The Non-GMO Project Verification is an important recognition of Algatech’s strong commitment to North American and global customers, states Efrat Kat, Marketing & Sales Director for Algatech. “The AstaPure brand includes a wide range of natural Astaxanthin oleoresin, beadlets and powder solutions. During 2016, we are planning further investments in new product development and market launches.”

Astaxanthin, a dark red functional pigment, is a member of the carotenoid family. It is the main carotenoid found in algae, the food source for fish and crustaceans. Astaxanthin is an extremely powerful antioxidant, more than 500 times stronger than tocopherol (Vitamin E), and much more potent than other carotenoids such as lutein, lycopene and β-carotene.

“In 2015, Algatech completed a major expansion project and improved efficiencies in order to meet new market challenges,” notes Ronnie Meninger, company CEO, “We also strengthened our commitment to new science revealing important astaxanthin health benefits.”

Algatech is a member of NAXA (the Natural Algae Astaxanthin ‎Association). In response to the growing problem of adulteration within the dietary supplements industry, NAXA members are collaborating to educate brand manufacturers and consumers on the importance of sourcing natural astaxanthin derived from Haematococcus pluvialis.

The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s only independent verification for products made according to rigorous best practices for GMO (genetically modified organisms) avoidance. AstaPure is among the first Astaxanthin ingredients to be verified by the Non-GMO Project.

Parent Trusted for over 25 years, Baby Mum-Mum has products that are officially Non-GMO Project Verified!

Mum-Mum[2]

Food labels are more confusing than ever, making it difficult for parents to choose the right foods for their child. This is especially true for those parents aware of GMO’s. Baby Mum-Mums has never strayed from their mission to provide the highest quality rice biscuit available on the market, with as few ingredients as possible, while maintaining awareness of environmental impact. Want-Want Holdings, Ltd, makers of Baby Mum-Mum, is pleased to announce that two of our most popular flavors - Baby Mum-Mum Original Rice Rusks and Baby Mum-Mum Vegetable Rice Rusks - have been approved to proudly bear the Non-GMO Project Verified emblem. This is such an important initiative for us that we are working towards Non-GMO Project Verification for our other products as well.

GMO stands for genetically modified organisms and indicates that the genetic material of a living organism has undergone artificial manipulation in a laboratory. Although the United States does not currently require companies to disclose whether or not there are GMO’s in their products, more than 60 countries around the globe have restricted or altogether banned the sales and production of GMO’s.

GMO’s negatively impact every part of our food supply systems from soil to animals to farmers. Although long-term effects of GMO’s remain unknown, GMO crops are known to be responsible for the creation of “super bugs” and “super weeds” which require greater amounts and higher strength toxic poisons to keep those bugs and weeds from harming crops.

Non-GMO Project Verified
Even for parents new to the potential dangers of GMO’s, the right to know what they are feeding their children is imperative.  The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building the non-GMO food supply, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices because they believe that everyone has a right to know what is in the food they’re eating. Products must undergo a thorough evaluation and testing to be approved by the Non-GMO Project and Want-Want Holdings, Ltd is proud to be a part of the non-GMO movement.

As Colleen Hurley, registered dietitian and certified kid’s nutrition specialist, explains: “As if what we currently know about GMO’s isn’t alarming enough, it’s actually what we don’t know that is even more frightening.  There is no long term evidence of impacts on our health and our environment, so how can we hand a child a food that could potentially hinder healthy development? Baby Mum-Mum has always been of the mindset: Why take the risk? This started with keeping food allergens out of their products and GMO’s are no exception.”

About Baby Mum-Mum
Baby Mum-Mum is manufactured by Want-Want Foods Ltd, a company with over 50 years of experience in producing high quality food products. Today, Want-Want is headquartered in Shanghai, China and has grown to become the largest
maker of rice snack products in the world. Want-Want is a listed company on the prestigious Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
