Non-GMO Project

Testing is a crucial component of the Non-GMO Project Standard because it is the most reliable way to address the reality of contamination. GMOs can contaminate other crops through pollen drift in the field or at many other points during processing, transportation, and storage. Non-GMO Project

We're often asked what the difference is between the Non-GMO Project Verified seal and other, self-made claims like "GMO-free" or "No GMOs." Our commitment to independent, third-party verification sets the Butterfly apart!

When a company develops a label — even if it's an excellent label with a strict set of standards — they have a financial stake in that label's success. They want their label to have meaning, and they want people and brands to seek out the label. Suppose that company also conducts all the product reviews and testing. In that case, the fact that they want their label to succeed — to be widespread and sought after — might distort how they implement or interpret evaluations. Their findings could be biased. That's a conflict of interest. Left unchecked, it could undermine the integrity of a label.

Working with independent, third-party verifiers is just one way the Non-GMO Project ensures an unbiased review of a product has taken place. These expert teams — called Technical Administrators — work with many clean food labels like ours, as well as other certification programs across a variety of industries. Their success is determined by their accuracy and expertise. This third-party verification is what makes the Butterfly seal the most reliable label for non-GMO food and products — allowing you to #TrustThirdParty and #BuyProudly.

The food your family eats connects you to the people and the land that produces that food, impacting the health of our planet and all the creatures that inhabit it. As we continue our weekly #BrandWednesday, we're highlighting brands with Verified products whose stories of interconnectedness exemplify their commitment to #BeTheButterfly.

This week’s brand is SpudLove Thick-Cut Potato Chips:

"As fifth generation potato farmers, we’ve been doing this longer than most. We love what we do, too. And we know that every part of our farm at Threemile Canyon works together: from the farmers to the crops, the cover crops for the soil, our special land and weather in Oregon and everything in between. We grow potatoes with purpose, and SpudLove Thick-Cut Potato Chips are the mouthwatering proof."
