James Schaberg

Digital Marketing Coordinator

James has a passion for food that is rooted from his youth, growing up among the fruit orchards and small farms in Northern Michigan. He worked on a community-supported agriculture farm for two summers before turning his attention towards flying small aircraft. In 2005, he completed his AS in Aviation-Flight Technology from Northwestern Michigan College where he then taught at as an adjunct flight instructor. Throughout the following decade, James worked various jobs as a commercial pilot. He was awestruck and inspired by the sight of the North American agriculture system from the air.

In the transition from his career as a pilot,James attended Montana State University then Western Washington University. He also worked at six natural food stores across the northern United States where he gleaned insight into how our food system works. James’ passion for product transparency and a world free of genetically modified food drew him to the Non-GMO Project. He is thrilled about the organization’s success in providing individuals and groups the ability to make informed food choices.

Out of the office, James enjoys spending time in forests with his wife and son. He loves to garden and spends endless hours in the kitchen creating plant-based recipes.  James is also an avid dancer and instructs weekly Zipper Dance workshops. He still flies occasionally for the joy and unique perspective that a birds-eye-view brings to his life.
