Barbara is a lifelong naturalist and environmentalist with a diverse background in science, engineering, and administration. She began her career as an intern with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, and following graduate school became an environmental engineer practicing in water, wastewater, and pollution control. She later worked as an administrator for an environmental law firm. As the Non-GMO Project Standards & Verification Assistant, she supports the S&V team by facilitating communications, project tracking, and document management.
Barbara was born in Lynnwood, Washington, but she grew up in Washington, D.C., and also spent much of her life in the Arizona desert. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University. She has also completed graduate work in Restoration Ecology and studied climate change, clean energy transition, and sustainable food systems. She is dedicated to raising awareness about the connections between our food, our health, and our impact on the earth.
She has a passion for vegetarian cooking (and eating!), especially with family and friends. She also enjoys gardening (much easier in Bellingham than in Phoenix), sewing, raising very spoiled laying hens, and hiking with her daughter and two Australian shepherds.
