Hemp Oil Canada Announces Non-GMO Project Verification

August 5, 2014

hempoilHemp Oil Canada (HOCI) is proud to announce that many of their products have received Verification by the Non-GMO Project. This official Non-GMO Project Verified label allows manufacturers, bulk wholesalers, distributors and businesses to purchase hemp foods and ingredients with confidence in avoiding GMOs.

As of today, Hemp Oil Canada’s (HOCI) products that have received Non-GMO Project Verified status include:

Hemp Oil Canada’s organic and natural hemp foods and ingredients join the more than 20,000 products verified by the Non-GMO Project since 2010.  More products are to receive verification in the next few months and can also be found listed on the Non-GMO Project online directory.

Barry Tomiski, Hemp Oil Canada’s COO, explains that the company shares the Non-GMO Project’s conviction that consumers deserve to know exactly what is in their food.

GMOs have not been proven safe for human consumption. Some GMO crops have been modified to withstand large doses of pesticides, which are harmful to the environment and humans. Consumers who are concerned with social justice issues also have objections to the business practices of some companies who produce GMOs.

More than 60 countries worldwide have banned or restricted the use of GMOs. The United States has no such restrictions. GMOs are now present in 80% of America’s conventional processed food, so consumers who want to avoid GMOs must rely on independent verification from the Non-GMO Project.

The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s ONLY independent verification for products made according to rigorous best practices for GMO (genetically modified organisms) avoidance. Their verification proves that Hemp Oil Canada’s Verified products are produced in compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard—that means ongoing testing of all GMO risk ingredients, facility inspections and an annual audit to ensure we’re meeting the highest possible standards for GMO avoidance.

GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses, and other animals and plants. These experimental combinations of genes cross the natural species barrier and have not been proven safe.

In addition to being Non-GMO Project Verified, Hemp Oil Canada’s hemp foods and ingredients are also certified Kosher and Halal.  President Shaun Crew believes these designations allow hemp to be consumed by customers with special dietary requirements.

Hemp is Going Mainstream

Hemp foods are gaining popularity as consumers are educated and health savvy who are looking for nutritious, beneficial foods to include in daily meals and recipes.  Gone are the snickers and jokes about hemp’s cousin, marijuana. Legitimate certifications and verifications by organizations such as the Non-GMO Project are elevating hemp’s status across the board.

More cereals, bars, shakes and even veggie burgers now contain hemp as a main ingredient. Several highly recognized chefs have developed their own recipes using hemp ingredients as hemp is now being introduced into the Foodservice industry. Hemp is also feeling the love from dietitians and meal planners at health care facilities.

Hemp Oil Canada is ready to meet this increased demand. They are currently constructing a new, innovative food processing facility in Ste. Agathe, MB which will be completed near the end of 2014.

Hemp Oil Canada’s hemp seed oil is available in minimum wholesale quantity of 20L (5gal)+. Dry hemp products are available in minimum wholesale quantity of 50lbs+. Private labelling services are also available, should you wish to start your own line of hemp foods & ingredients.
