Murray’s Chicken is proud to announce that its chicken has passed a rigorous, independent verification process by the Non-GMO Project. Its ready-to-cook product line will now bear the Non-GMO Project Verified Seal. This seal lets consumers know which Murray’s Chickens products (whole, boneless skinless breasts, wings, thighs, legs, drumsticks, split breast, liver, bones, and boneless skinless thighs) have met the Non-GMO Project standard to avoid genetically modified organisms (GMO). The chicken products bearing the Non-GMO Project Verified seal makes Murray’s Chickens a great choice in order to avoid GMO’s.
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of Non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s ONLY third-party verification for products produced according to rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance. The organization’s Standard requires that every single batch of major risk ingredients used in a verified product (example those derived from corn, soy, etc.) is tested before use, and be below their action threshold of 0.9%. For animals to be Non-GMO Project Verified, the animals feed must also be non-GMO.
“We are reaching a tipping point in consumer habits and behaviors as it pertains to GMOs in their food,” says Steve Gold, Vice President Sales and Marketing of Murray’s Chicken. Murray’s receives dozens of requests from customers each week asking for non-GMO chickens. “We are delighted to show them ‘we heard you’ with our Non-GMO Project Verified line of chicken,” says Gold.
Murray’s Chicken products with the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on its label will be initially available at all Fairway Markets and select Kings Food Stores in the New York Tri State area beginning January 17, 2014.
About Murray’s Chickens
Murray’s Chickens are raised in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Lancaster countryside by a select number of family farms that embrace our vision. We at Murray’s Chickens believe our consumer is becoming increasingly concerned with how food is produced and how farm animals are raised and treated. Farmers and companies are responding with various labels and claims. Our label claims, such as “Grown Without The Use Of Antibiotics” and “Certified Humane” assure our customers the Murray’s Chicken they are serving their family was produced ‘better-for-you’ whether it be more humane, sustainable or healthy.
Is it easy to grow chicken with these label claims? No. We have proven the key to producing great tasting, non- GMO, antibiotic-free (ABF) chickens is good management. It is not by using antibiotics as a substitute for poor management. Our approach to raising chickens this way truly reflects our philosophy of performing at levels to assure growing the best tasting ‘better-for-you’ chicken attainable. A loud Cluck, Cluck, Cluck for knowing where our food comes from and how it was fed and raised.
